Farewell David (?)

Well, I know loads of people have been freaking out about James Nesbitt replacing their Divine Pretty, i.e. David Tennant but I'm kind of ok with that.  Tbh, he's exactly the kind of person I wanted to take over from DT-older, more mature, not so pretty but just as charismatic (ok, yes, I really do want Christopher Eccleston back).

I will certainly miss DT's aforementioned prettyness and gawkish adorableness, plus his random flailing, his exclamations of joy over mechanical parts and his occasional snogs with french girls but I can live with him moving on.  After S4 he will have done three years, which is quite long enough for any actor, and also about the average length of most of the Doctors, except Tom Baker, who did sveen years cos he was cool.

I think James Nesbitt  will do an excellent job, if it's not, in fact, a rumour; he isn't "tainted" by yellow pages adverys or any of the silly things people have been saying.  I watched one episode of Jekyll and felt physically sickened by the sheer glee and destruction in his performance, which is a very strong reaction to have, so I have no doubts about his acting ability either.

And, on the plus side, the Ten/Rose shippers might shut up about Rose rejoining the series now Teh Pretty won't be around.  Hah.  And, this might be wishful thinking, but I do think that he would have excellent chemistry with Martha.  I mean, srsly, scorching.

Oh, and also- Moffat replacing RTD as Head Writer?  Two things:

1) YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.  THANK YOU GOD MY LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDS.

2)  RTD and DT leaving at the same time convinces me of what I have long suspected: that RTD lives only to create Mary-Sueified versions of Rose as his little prop through which he can envision shagging David tennant.  Mate, we'd all like to shag David Tennant, but we don't slag off Martha to do it.

Comments

I have no problem with James Nesbitt, other than how he pronounces his 's's, and that's just pettiness. In fact, he's a rather good actor. But the Beeb will be bastards and make him get rid of his lovely Irish accent (which I like, other than the 's's), like they did with Tennant and his lovely Scottishness.

However, I do feel it's all probably just a rumour anyway.

And MOFFAT YES PLEASE!
Oh PLEASE let him the keep the Irish accent! Loves me some Irish, I do. We're having a Dylan Moran marathon nest Wednesday :D

I think it's quite a likely rumour, if you see what I mean. He's done lots for the Beeb, he's worked with Moffat (yayz) and the environment over there is so incestuous, he's even done work with Billy Piper...
Dylan Moran <3 Would that be Black Books and Monster?
Yes indeedy and also "Like Totally...", which i went to see him live doing.

I luff him. He's so disenchanted with the world.
I AGREE WITH THIS POST SO MUCH!

To be honest I'm quite ready for David to leave DW and move on to other things (namely Hamlet at the RSC - please say the rumours are true!). But then I've always been more of a David Tennant fan than a Doctor Who fan.
THANK YOU!

I am divided over Tennant as Hamlet. I will certainly go and see it but I have my doubts. DT's always struck me as such a lightweight actor, I'd be worried anyway if it weren't for the fact that Hamlet is my favourite male Shakespearian character, alongside Jaques from As You Like It. I am suspending my judgement :P
If you'd seen him playing Jimmy Porter doing extracts from Look Back in Anger then you so wouldn't class him as a lightweight actor! Oh my fucksie he was effing amazing...it was electric! I only wish I could've seen him doing the whole play when he did it in Edinburgh.
WHAT?!?!?!?

I have been on holiday for two weeks, and missed this... what...! Is David Tennant leaving Dr Who? NOOOO.... hes too gorgous... James Nesbitt is ok though

and I like Moffat replacing RTD, hes the only writer in Dr Who that gets me hiding behind the sofa... me a fully grown 18 year old!
Lol, it's just a rumour and apparently now Moffat has said it's rubbish, so there you go. But I bet it's exactly the kind of person the Beeb will choose,

They won't go for anyone obviously good looking because of how pretty Tennant was but they'll also want someone who does lots of their dramas, so there you go.

I pray the thing about Moffat being head writer is true though, he scares me shitless!
omg, Nesbitt as The Doctor would just be brilliant! Perfect person to take over from DT [yeah, I'd miss teh pretty, but I'd love to see him in something else, and hate to see him typecast], and an awesome actor to boot. If it's true, YAY, if not, then I hope the beeb stick wih this kind o' thing.

OMG MOFFAT AS HEAD WRITER YES PLS.
